Basil Leaves - Healing Properties and Natural Remedies
If you’re thinking about what herbs should you have on your kitchen shelf, then you should now probably go to the store and stock up on basil.
And it’s not just because of its incredibly pleasant smell and aroma that I’m telling you this. But the main reason is that basil is one of the healthiest herbs out there.
And it’s due to its incredible flavor and properties that basil has been used by mankind for almost three millennia. And here’s something interesting that I just recently found out about:
The Romans, and later, the Italians, believed that the basil was the herb of love and fertility. Other nations across the world, like Greece and India consider it to be a sacred plant. But apart from all that, it’s also a healing plant.
So let’s see how you can use it to improve your health.
Matify A Seborrheic Complexion
In the evening, clean your skin with a basil infusion, and then soak a compress in the same infusion, to apply on your forehead and cheeks.
This treatment keeps your pores from getting infected, destroys the bacteria that aggravate your acne, and thoroughly cleanses your skin.
Say Goodbye to Hair Loss
Fill a ¼ of a mug with infusion and then add 1 or 2 drops of basil essential oil. Use this concoction to massage your scalp on a daily basis.
This is a treatment that powerfully activates the circulation of the hair follicles and which eliminates the fungus and mycosis of the scalp.
The infusion is very easy to prepare. In a mug, add boiling water over a teaspoon of basil leaves or dried basil. Let it infuse for 15 minutes.
Infections with Bacteria Resistant to Antibiotics
Basil essential oil is one of the most powerful antibiotic substances, which is effectively used against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.
Moreover, treatment with basil essential oil, unlike that of classic antibiotics, does not favor the appearance of mycoses. On the contrary, it has quite the antifungal effect and does not weaken the immune system.
As such, in case the antibiotics treatment that your doctor has prescribed you doesn’t work, then you can try taking 2-4 drops of basil essential oil 4 times/day, over a period of 10-14 days.
Cystitis
Drink three cups a day of basil infusion and 3 drops of basil essential oil in the morning, at noon and in the evening.
The treatment lasts for 7-14 days and has antibiotic, antimycotic, and powerful antiviral effects. Basil also stimulates diuresis, reduces inflammation in the urinary tract, and prevents complications triggered by urinary infections.
Food Poisoning Treatment
A 2004 study shows that adding a single drop of basil essential oil in one liter of drinking water, consumed throughout the day, safeguards you against many of the food-borne bacteria infections, which can trigger symptoms of food poisoning, like vomiting, strong diarrhea, fever - especially during the warm season.
Also seasoning your food with basil is highly recommended, especially during the summer, because the essential substances in basil help keep the foods unaltered for a long time and protect us from digestive tract infections.
Treatment for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
Mix 4 tablespoons of finely ground basil powder with 12 tablespoons of honey and 4 tablespoons of fresh pollen.
Consume 4-6 teaspoons of this mixture each day for ten days in a row. Pause the treatment for another five days of, and then resume the treatment if you still need it.
This is a treatment with complex effects, because it has a tonic effect on your nervous system, has an antidepressant action and helps you to relax.
All of these health benefits and the incredible flavor are the reasons why I love basil so much and I put it in a lot of my dishes.
