The Complete Guide To Prediabetes (Read This If You’re Prediabetic)

In recent years, you may have noticed that more and more attention is being paid to prediabetes and diabetes…

And that’s a good thing…

But there’s a bad side as well…

I believe it’s the single most dangerous threat to our nation’s health…

The REASON why diabetes is in the spotlight is that it affects so many people – 22.3 million Americans are diabetic…

And another 84.1 million are prediabetic!

With this disease being so prevalent and so many people getting the bad news from their doctor that they’re prediabetic, I thought it would be a good idea to shed some light on this difficult subject…

Today, I’ll explain to you not only what prediabetes is, but also what steps you can take to stop it from becoming full-blown diabetes…

As well as answer some questions you may be thinking, like this first one…

What Does It Mean If I’m Prediabetic?

If you’ve received a prediabetes diagnosis from your doctor, there’s a good chance that they gave you a blood test…

And your blood sugar level was higher than normal. The standard blood sugar ranges are as follows:

  • Normal: 70-99 mg
  • Prediabetes: 100-125 mg
  • Diabetes: 126+ mg

Now, if you fall in the prediabetes or diabetes range, what that means is that your body is either…

A) Not producing enough insulin OR

B) Not properly using the insulin it produces

And here’s the thing – you may feel reasonably fine…

That’s because prediabetes usually has no signs or symptoms apart from an elevated blood sugar…

However, the danger is that if something isn’t done, it’ll progress to Type 2 diabetes – and you can bet that there are a TON of signs, symptoms, complications, and other issues once you reach that point.

I won’t go over all the problems of being diabetic (there’s too many to list), but here’s just a few risks to be aware of…

  • High blood pressure
  • Heart damage
  • Nerve damage
  • Kidney damage
  • Skin conditions
  • Eye issues

Now, before you get discouraged and ready to throw in the towel, let me give you the good news…

You can cure prediabetes!

That’s right – you’re not stuck with this disease, but the truth is that you do need to take action to get rid of it…

And here’s the first step in doing just that…

Time To Change Your Diet

Without a doubt, the biggest thing you can do to avoid full-blown diabetes (other than stop smoking)…

Is change your diet.

For most people, being diagnosed as prediabetic has a lot to do with the food they eat. Ask yourself this – how many of these items do you consume on a regular basis?

  • Processed foods (microwave dinners)
  • Salty processed snacks (potato chips)
  • Soda and other drinks with sugar
  • Fast food
  • Sweet desserts
  • White bread
  • Pasta and rice

All of these foods put you on the fast track towards diabetes, especially if you’re eating them every day, which is unfortunately what many people with prediabetes do…

At the same time, there are easy fixes for all of these trouble foods, and I’m going to show you replacements for every one…

  • Processed foods – The solution for this one is simply to cook more of your meals. In nearly every case, the food you make at home will be more nutritious than pre-made options.
  • Salty snacks – Switch out the potato chips for nuts, seeds, fruit, or my personal favorite – a trail mix that combines all of the above.
  • Sugary drinks – Simply put, replace your soda with water. It does a world of good for your health and if you want to improve the taste, just drop in a few slices of lemon.
  • Fast food – If you’re running through the drive-thru every day for lunch, then think about taking leftovers or food from home with you to work.
  • Desserts – Try berries with yogurt or dark chocolate with 70%+ cacao to satisfy your sweet cravings.
  • White bread, pasta, and rice – Swap out these common base foods with vegetables like potatoes that are more filling, more nutritious, and most importantly, taste better.

Fixing your diet doesn’t happen overnight, so take each group of foods one-by-one, implementing the changes above that give you better insulin response and lower blood sugar…

Something else that doesn’t happen overnight, but is an essential part of getting rid of your prediabetes is…

Lose 7% Or More of Your Body Weight

The vast majority of people with prediabetes are also overweight or obese…

Now, I know you’ve probably tried a million diets, but a temporary food regiment really isn’t the answer…

However, the diet changes listed above aren’t the rules for a fad diet – they’re eating decisions you can make on a permanent basis…

And even just with those changes, you’ll almost certainly notice the pounds coming off as you’re consuming much less calories (and the ones you’re now getting are much healthier)…

But if you truly want to lose weight, then there’s no getting around the next step – you have to move your body more…

That doesn’t mean you have to go to run 3 miles or go to the gym everyday, but it does mean you need to make a conscious decision to incorporate more movement into your daily routine, such as…

  • Setting aside time to walk around your neighborhood
  • Going to your local swimming pool for low-impact exercise
  • Going up and down stairs in your home
  • Finding a prediabetic friend or family member to join you

I’m not going to lie to you and say that losing 7% of your body weight is as easy as snapping your fingers…

It’s not.

At the same time, you WILL notice the difference…

And even more critical, you’ll be preventing the onset of diabetes… and that’s a BIG DEAL. Just ask the people you know with diabetes about their quality of life and I almost guarantee you’ll hear about…

  • Daily pin pricks for blood sugar testing
  • Frequent trips to the doctor for checkups
  • Limited mobility
  • Missing out on quality time with friends and family
  • Endless fear of having a heart attack

And much, much more…

Trust me on this – stopping your prediabetes from becoming full-blown diabetes is something you absolutely want to do…

And it’s worth every single bit of effort you put into it.

If you’re finding it a little hard to control your cravings for high carb foods, you might want to try and…
